Mt Kenya travel diary

The best 2hrs drive from Meru led me to this very beautiful place up Mount Kenya .We drove towards upper Imenti up Marania forest (ever heard of the famous Marania extreme challenge? That’s the place) but now branched before we got to Kenya School of Adventure (KESAL).Getting to Rutundu from here was easy in a landrover bringing our drive to an end at Kathita gorge which we crosssed and walked to the cabins. From here we could clearly see Lake Rutundu which is a staggering distance from the cabins.

Rutundu Cabins and just to mention,Prince William and Kate Middleton were staying here at the time they got engaged. Rutundu Cabins is your perfect place to stay if you want to enjoy some worthwhile trout fishing at lakes Alice and Rutundu or if you want to hike mount Kenya not forgetting the views you get to enjoy. It’s a perfect getaway for the nature lovers as they get to enjoy panoramic views at the comfort of the cabins.

This is us breathing it all in. I decided to do lake Alice after i and a friend of mine(who i meant on twitter btw,the camera man decided not to show us him there clearly )argued about quite for some time on the very same platform about Lake Rutundu and Alice. To clear the air we both had to take this challenge. We hiked together and by the time we descended we were in agreement.

Up mt Kenya, anything above 3000mASL is just mind blowing. Just see this view

Lake Alice

Thanks to twitter i discovered lake Alice on a personal level and to my friend K for the challenge. A colleague of mine had talked me into going there but things kept on popping up but K’s challenge worked,i finally made it.

Lake Alice was named after the Duchess of Gloucester, who visited Kenya just after the lake was discovered.  The walk to Lake Alice is a true test of stamina, the final haul to the crater rim is steep, but in no time the pain melts away as the extraordinary blue of Lake Alice unfolds beneath you. That’s my experience,i hope after reading this you’ll feel the urge to go have a similar experience.

Lets hike∼∼Read∼like∼share
